We combine Spironolactone with a customized topical prescription cream for extra acne-clearing results. It is important to note that in some cases, Spironolactone can cause high levels of Potassium and your provider may request to have this checked via bloodwork during treatment. Spironolactone should not be taken by people with Addison’s Disease or Kidney Issues.

Your dermatologist will work with you to determine if Spironolactone might be the best treatment option for your particular acne type.

Important Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Warning for Spironolactone: Spironolactone should not be used if you are actively trying to get pregnant, are pregnant, or breastfeeding. The use of Spironolactone during pregnancy is generally contraindicated unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus. Animal studies have indicated increased resorption rates, fewer live fetuses, and both progestational and antiandrogenic effects. There are no controlled studies in human pregnancy.
